Storybook Baby Shower

I wanted to share with you the loveliest baby shower that my vintage doll planned for me.  In a crazy turn of events I found myself pregnant at the same time as my dearest friend in the world.  Both of us have

Guest books were a board book where every guest wrote a personal note for baby!

amazing teen and tween daughters who put all of their talents together, and with a little help from some of our other generous friends, put together a joint baby shower with a Storybook theme.  Both of our oldest daughters are avid readers, so the theme was so fitting!

For the luncheon, each dish has a corresponding children’s book to sit next to it.  My favorites were the Hop on Pop and Fish Out of Water popcorn and goldfish cracker cones, Goodnight Moon croissants with chicken or egg salad, Green Eggs and Ham deviled eggs, and Make Way for Ducklings lemonade with

rubber duckies floating in it.  The chocolate covered strawberries, made by my Sunshine Doll, to go with The Big Hungry Bear were so yummy!  There were blueberry scones to go with Blueberries for Sal and pigs in a blanket to go with If You Give a Pig a Party.

A good friend even made a cone holder! Each paper cone was a colorful page from a book.

The decor was made by my BFF’s artistic dolls, from pages of children’s books.  Pennants adorned the walls and handcrafted signs with lovely quotes about books adorned the tables and walls.  My oldest daughter created a Winnie-the-Pooh beehive cake.  Not only was it stunning with its cartoonish fondant bees looking for the world like they came to buzz around the cake straight from a Milne book, but the honey lemon flavor with a vanilla glaze and cream cheese filling seemed something from the best of bakeries rather than the creation of a meticulous 14 year old.

The cake was as good as it looked!

Our friends were so generous with gifts!  The gift table was adorned with toy blocks spelling out the baby’s names.  And the diaper raffle set us both up for diapers for quite some time.  Hooray!   So many contributed to the storybook themed food and decor, including wrapping the green utensils in orange napkins to look like carrots, going with The Tale of Peter Rabbit and a Very Hungry Caterpillar table runner hanging off the food table.

My sisters are known as party games queens and created some book themed games with adorable gift baskets as prizes, including a game of children’s book jeopardy.

The tablecloths were quilts and the runners book pages.

I am so proud of my girls.  The details were amazing and so well thought out.  It is nice to know that my girls are so resourceful and can put together a terrific party at such young ages.  The storybook theme allowed a broad range of colors and foods and expressed our love of good literature, especially as homeschoolers.  Here’s hoping our new little ones will be good readers, too.

What a blessing to be pregnant along with your bestie!
