Passport 2 Purity weekend with my doll

Talking about sex with your tween daughter?  Yikes!  No one’s favorite activity!  But, last year I did something very exciting and productive with my oldest daughter.  We used Family Life Today’s Passport2Purity–Weekend Retreat Kit to create a fun and purposeful mother daughter getaway for my 12 year old and I.  Valuing purity cannot be taught well when temptation is already looking us in the face.  Those values are best taught and discussed before situations arise where training in valuing ourselves and respecting our bodies becomes crucial.  The program is also for father – son getaways.  There is some pre-planning involved.  We used my husband’s frequent hotel stay benefits to book a room in another part of the city, not too far from a touristy beach area.  The kit provides CDs to listen to in the car on the way and in your hotel room.  The parent guide book offers cost saving suggestions for tight budgets, though I strongly urge you to set aside money and save for a bit, if you need to, in order to create a really special and memorable weekend.

There is a short list of items to purchase for object lessons, though there is a project kit available for purchase that conveniently  packages everything you need, if you prefer: Passport2Purity Project Kit I had most of the items laying around my house, such a play dough, two small puzzles, matches, etc.  The weekend closes with a special gift.  We chose a purity ring, but the book includes lots of other fun ideas, too.  The afternoon of the second day (or however you would like to arrange your weekend) is reserved to share a fun activity together.  I purchased a Groupon for a glass blowing session for two.  We had fun doing an unusual activity together and brought home a lovely momento as well.  The only other planning is where and what to eat and budgeting.  Our hotel had a free breakfast.  I found some hipster spot that specialized in funky grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner on Friday night and a really yummy sub shop (since that is my daughter’s most requested lunch) for Saturday lunch.  Dad joined us for the closing dinner, Saturday night where we dressed up for a fancy Italian dinner (thanks again to Groupon) where she recapped the lessons for her dad and he presented her with a special letter he wrote for her and her special gift)  I presented my letter to her on Friday night.

Treats for foodie girls!

Barbara Rainey handles sensitive issues with grace and gentleness and we were able to discuss a number of issues regarding sexuality and boys, discussions prompted by things Barbara touches upon in the CDs.  The CDs are usable for subsequent children, of course, and they have available for sale individual copies of the fun “travel journal”, a sort of workbook that goes along with listening to the CDs and helps hold interest, since though it comes with the kit, it is consumable, requiring another workbook for a subsequent child: Passport2Purity Travel Journal Replacement Kit.  All products can be purchased directly from Family Life Today or through the affiliate links I have provided above from http://ChristianBook.com.

Passport 2 Purity provides a fun CD with memory verses.  It is modifiable to fit other situations, though it works best as written, a parent child overnight getaway.  Almost two years later I see the principles have stuck fast in my daughter’s mind, especially the object lessons.  I hope you get the chance to try Passport 2 Purity with your 10 to 13 year old!

We really enjoyed the time together!
